Are you an experienced Technical Quality Manager looking for an exciting new opportunity? We are currently assisting one of our prestigious clients, a leading fresh produce importer that supplies the UK wholesale markets and food service companies, in their search for a talented Technical Quality Manager to join their team.

About the Company:

Our client, a key player in the fresh produce industry, imports a wide variety of high-quality produce from over 100 suppliers across the globe. With more than 300 different fruit categories, varieties, and pack sizes, they take pride in delivering exceptional products to their customers. As part of their commitment to quality and compliance, they work closely with a specialist third-party technical consultant to ensure that all suppliers meet the necessary standards for supplying produce to the UK market.

Responsibilities:

In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing the company’s quality control operation. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Assessing and improving the company’s ability to identify fresh produce that meets the required specifications.
• Providing expert guidance to the fruit traders in their customer interactions.
• Offering valuable advice to the fruit procurers in their dealings with suppliers.
• Collaborating with third-party receivers of fresh produce in the UK, particularly in interpreting pack lists before the produce arrives, with a special focus on items like stone fruit that may require special attention.
• Working closely with senior management at third-party handling companies to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Developing a process for providing advanced notice to major customers to avoid costly and time-consuming rejections.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

• A proven track record of implementing quality control procedures across a diverse range of produce in the UK.
• In-depth knowledge of compliance requirements, Globalgap, and UK Marketing Standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders.
• Previous exposure to fresh produce import/export operations would be highly advantageous.
• Access to a network of specialists within the industry, such as berries, top fruit, stone fruit, and citrus, is a plus.

Location and Reporting:

This is a remote role, providing you with the flexibility to work from the comfort of your home. However, as the Technical Quality Manager, you will be required to travel to facilities in the Dartford and Paddock Wood areas of Kent. You will work closely with the MD/Deputy MD and engage with the company’s traders and procurers on a daily basis. Additionally, you will participate in regular sales conference calls, conducted via Teams, and be responsible for preparing reports for the company’s quarterly Board meetings.

Please note that while the role offers remote work options, the ability to travel to the specified locations is essential to fulfil the responsibilities effectively.
